From My Grill to Yours: Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus for BBQ Season

There’s something about a backyard BBQ that just hits different.
Friends. Family. Sunshine. Smoke in the air. Plates stacked high.

I’ve always tried to keep things mostly healthy for my kids — but let’s be honest, in my house bacon never stood a chance of being “occasional.” If it can be wrapped in bacon, cooked in bacon, sprinkled with bacon bits… it’s happening.

Prosciutto slices, fresh asparagus, and whipped cheese arranged on a wooden cutting board with olive oil and rosemary for making bacon or prosciutto wrapped asparagus.

And right behind bacon? Prosciutto.
The thin, salty Italian deli meat that makes any vegetable feel like a treat.

Back when I lived in Ottawa, one of my happiest little rituals was grabbing a fresh prosciutto–provolone sandwich in the ByWard Market. Thick bread, salty meat, sharp cheese — the kind of lunch that stays with you for years. No surprise it’s still one of my go-tos for BBQ inspiration.

Because here’s the truth:
Every BBQ is better when bacon or prosciutto shows up.

And if you’re looking for a ridiculously easy way to level up a simple seasonal vegetable, this is it — bacon-wrapped asparagus (or prosciutto-wrapped if you want something a little lighter and crispier).

Here’s one of my favourite ways to dress up a simple summer vegetable: bacon-wrapped asparagus (or prosciutto-wrapped for a lighter, crispier version).

Hand spreading cheese onto prosciutto and asparagus on a cutting board in a cozy kitchen, preparing prosciutto wrapped asparagus for grilling.

Bacon- or Prosciutto-Wrapped Asparagus

Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus
  • Bacon or prosciutto slices
  • Olive oil
  • Freshly cracked pepper
  • Optional: garlic powder, lemon zest, or balsamic glaze

Instructions:

  1. Trim the ends off the asparagus.
  2. Drizzle lightly with olive oil and season with pepper.
  3. Wrap each spear with bacon or prosciutto.
  4. Grill over medium heat until the bacon is crispy and the asparagus is tender.
  5. Serve immediately.

Enjoy the BBQ season from our grill to yours.

  1. May I come live with you? I don’t take up much room and am willing to do the dishes after a yummy meal like this…

  2. Yum! I’ll definitely be trying this the next time I fire up the grill. I normally do asparagus drizzled with olive oil, sea salt, and cracked peppercorn instead… but, this just sounds too delicious not to try at least once!

      1. I think my waist line can handle it occasionally. It handles all the beer it has to contend with more than occasionally. 😛

  3. I always dump the expired bread to the dustbin. Hm.. maybe i should try it!
