Well hello there.
Long time, no see.
I’ve returned — and not by accident.
There may have been a small, slightly dramatic happy dance involved.
Part of me is relieved.
Back to quiet mornings, hot coffee that stays hot, and a moment to write without interruption.
And yet… another part of me already misses the hum of my family.
The noise. The chaos. The constant movement that somehow makes a house feel alive.
*Does a Little happy dance…*
This morning, my littlest little — Adam — started Grade One.
Last night, we sat around the dinner table and shared stories.
Our memories of Grade One.
The things we loved. The things we worried about. The moments that stuck.
Then Adam asked his questions.
All of them.
What will the first day be like?
Will I make friends?
What if I don’t know something?
And we answered — honestly, calmly, and together.
By the end of the night, I could see it in him.
He felt ready.
And so did I.

The Power of Talking It Through
One thing I’ve learned as a parent is this:
kids don’t need perfect answers — they need space to ask.
Preparing children for school isn’t just about backpacks and bedtime routines.
It’s about conversations.
We talk openly about fears.
We talk about expectations.
We talk about what’s exciting — and what feels a little scary.
And we do it together, around the dinner table.
It’s rarely quiet.
Often loud.
Sometimes chaotic.
But it’s real.
And those moments matter more than we realize.
How Do You Prepare Your Kids for Back-to-School?
-
Do you ease into earlier bedtimes?
-
Do you talk through fears ahead of time?
-
Do you share your own childhood memories?
Every family does it differently — and that’s okay.
For us, communication is everything.
And sitting down together, even when life feels busy, creates the space where that communication can happen naturally.
So excuse me please as I return to my coffee and cookie and consider the possibility of an early afternoon cocktail this afternoon…why? Because I CAN!
